Shooting competitions concluded at SOP
Doha, March 19, 2019. Shooting competitions as part of the 12th edition of the Schools Olympic Program concluded at Tariq Bin Ziyad Secondary School.
Those present included Hamad Al Mannai, Board Member of Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSA), Principal of Tariq Bin Ziyad Secondary School, Mohammad Rabia Al Kuwari, Principal of Mohammad Bin Jassim Al-Thani Preparatory School, Khamis Al Mohannadi, Principal of Jassim Bin Hamad Al-Thani Secondary School, Abdul Rahman Al-Maliki, Vice Principal of Tariq Bin Ziyad School and Dr. Salah Salem, SOP Technical Expert.
Designed for preparatory and secondary schools, shooting competitions began with the 10 metre Air Rifle.
In 10 metre Air Rifle individual event for high school students, Abdulrahman Al Yafei claimed the first place ahead of Jassim Raed Yaqoub from Omer bin Al Khatab School took the second place while Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari from the Gulf English School finished third.
In 10 metre Air Rifle team event Musab Bin Omair School took the first place, Jassim Bin Hamad – the second while the Gulf English – the third.
In 10 metre Air Pistol individual event at the secondary stage Fahad Ayed Baksh from Qatar Secondary Technical School and Abdulla Khalid Al-Sulaiti from Qatar Secondary School took the first two places resprectively while Abdullah Mohammad from Simaisma School got the third place.
In 10 metre Air Pistol team event for secondary schools, Qatar Secondary School won the gold medal, Qatar Secondary Technical School got the silver medal and the bronze one went to Simaisma School.
In 10 metre Air Rifle event for preparatory schools, Saad Ahmed Al-Sulaiti from Al-Razi School took the first place, Ali Hadi Al-Buraidi from Mohammad Bin Jassim School took the second place while Mohammad Saleh Al-Kirbi from Simaisma School finished third.
In 10 metre Air Rifle team event Mohammed bin Jassim School took the first place, Omar Bin Al-Khattab School got the second place while the third place went to Qatar School for Sciences and Technologies.
In 10 metre Air Pistol event for preparatory schools. Ibrahim Saad Al-Mohannadi from Omar Bin Al-Khatab School topped the leaderboard while his schoolmate Mohammad Ahmed Al-Emadi took the second place and Rashid Salem Al-Nuaimi from Abu Obaida School got the third place.
In 10 metre Air Pistol team event, Omar Bin Al-Khattab School won first place, Mohammed Bin Jassim School took the second place, and Abu Obaida Preparatory School – the third.
Shooting competitions are historically of great importance to Qatar: 2012 saw Qatari Nasser bin Saleh Al-Attiyah won a bronze medal in the skeet competition at the London Olympic Games and from then on there have been great achievements made in this prestigious sport. During the competitions young shooters demonstrated their high-level technical skills. Aiming to help national clubs spot promising talents, SOP provides the very best of them with an opportunity to join national clubs and compete in future on behalf of Qatar internationally.
SOP competition finals as well as award ceremonies in various sports will be held in the forthcoming days and weeks.

The SOP is held annually as a collaborative effort of Qatar School Sports Federation (QSSF) and Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with hundreds of student athletes competing from all over Qatar.
The SOP committee aims to spread a culture of sports throughout Qatar’s schools and to engage the entire community in active and healthy lifestyles while retaining local values and traditions.
